Social Engagement Services – Another String to Our Bow!

Providing social engagement services is an integral part of our provision of logistics support and local content provision to field operations.

In our recent field operations, our social engagement was about land-assessments which included speaking with land owners to gain their permission to value their land upon which a technical survey was conducted and afterwards, to ensure proper reconciliation and rehabilitation was appropriately managed. We involved multiple teams across hundreds of locations and made significant efforts to digitize the land-assessment processes to ensure data validity and accuracy across the process. This required digitizing the following; land-entry, initial assessment, post-valuation, payment acknowledgement and site clearance forms.

All completed social-engagement forms’ data were sent to a central database ensuring data entry accuracy at each step of the process. Critically, all forms were configured to allow the user to print the form offline without the need for an internet or data connection. Signed forms were printed and distributed in the field and the form-data would be uploaded to the cloud when the device regained an internet/data connection.

Thank you to our team for making this an efficient and successful project. Alistair Group, Making Africa Work Better!

Pemba Port Mud Plant Assembly

At Alistair Group, we specialize in providing logistics services to the Oil & Gas industry. We have become the supplier of choice for most of the blue-chip companies in Mozambique since we are the largest supplier of integrated services to the Oil & Gas industry in the Southern and Eastern African regions. Alistair Group provides both spot hire and contracted services and has served as a popular logistics partner of choice for companies drilling onshore over the past few years and has completed many rig moves in the region.

This year has been a busy and productive year for Alistair Group as we have been carrying out the installation of a Liquid Mud Plant in Pemba, Mozambique. We have been responsible for the lift plan, equipment rental, transportation and the positioning of the storage tanks.

The project kicked off on April 2019 when the vessel with 16 storage tanks arrived at the Pemba Port in Mozambique, we then transported the tanks to the Mud Plant Yard with our extendible lowbed trailers. Once the tanks arrived at the Mud Plant, we used our 165 ton, 80 ton and 130 ton cranes to successfully install the tanks. We were challenged by the fact that the tanks were designed with lifting points only at the top of the tanks for vertical installation and not for horizontal lifting. Thanks to careful planning, our excellent operation service and qualified team, we managed to plan the lift carefully, ensuring that the tanks were moved and installed in a safe, secure and compliant manner.  All the tanks have been installed effectively and successfully, our team is currently completing the installation of the pipework and gangways on the storage tanks and we are expecting to complete the project within the next month.

Alistair Group would like to thank our client for choosing us as their lifting and logistics company of choice and to our team for the excellent and professional manner in which you are executing this project

130 Ton Crane Move From Mtwara to Tanga

In January we moved our 130 ton Grove crane from Mtwara to Tanga, Tanzania.

Due to the size and weight of the unit, as well as road restrictions, the crane was dismantled and loaded onto 3 separate vehicles with the main unit loaded onto the low bed and the boom, counter weight and tyres loaded on tri-axles. With Hale bridge’s 4.7 height restriction in Tanga, and there being no alternative bypass routes, we loaded the unit to match the bridge’s limit so as to safely transport the crane.

Load of The Month: 52 Truckloads of Steel Pipes

In December we transported 52 truckloads of steel pipes from Dar es Salaam port to Kitwe, Zambia.

This operation presented several interesting challenges. As per our in-house standards, we ensure that each truck is serviced after every trip. Due to the quantities required for this project and the schedule, our workshop team was required to work efficiently in order to turn around all the required trucks within 72 hrs of arrival in Dar.

As the pipes were of different sizes and weight, they had to be loaded onto the trucks and secured with special lashing equipment under the guidance of professional loading supervisors and plans. When six trucks were found to be overweight on GVM, our operations team quickly came up with a solution.

Due to the concerted efforts of our drivers, workshop, loading and lashing and operations teams as well as the client’s clearance team, the cargo moved without delays and was safely delivered without any incidents or accidents.

Geotechnical Recce

This past month Alistair provided logistical and personnel services for a reconnaissance trip for the geotechnical study for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline.

The purpose of a geotechnical study is to study the suitability of the location of the pipeline route and the above ground installations and provide data necessary for the construction and engineering teams.

For this initial phase, we provided two (2) 4WD double cabin pickup trucks and utilised our professional network to enlist community liaison, security and medical experts for the job.
