DISMANTLING AND LOADING OF DREDGERS
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Activity: Dismantling and loading of dredgers

SCOPE OF WORK / CLIENT NEEDS
- Offloading the Alistair 165ton Crawler crane from the Jumbo barge and keep it on the quayside for the operation.
- Dismantle the dredger Ingwenya into three pieces (Ladder, Spud pontoon and spud legs) to reduce weight up to 104ton and loading to the Jumbo barge on route to Pemba Mozambique.
- Dismantle the Dredge Pontoon Umkhomo and loading to the Jumbo barge on route to Pemba Mozambique
- Dismantle T-Piece and Ten Piece Pontoon and loading to Sky 2 barge on route to Mombasa Kenya
CHALLENGES THAT WE’VE EXPERIENCED:
During the operation of complex lifting activities, there are many challenges that need to be tackled. For this specific project, we faced the absence of a spreader bar to execute the tandem lift of 104 tons, as well as the absence of lifting slings and shackles of 50tons.
In addition, during the loading of T-Piece Pontoon into SKY 2 Barge, we notice that the weight of Pontoon was exceeded due to the amount of water. The operation was stopped for hours to let water drain.
SERVICES SOLUTION:
The operation succeeded due to the reasons lifted below:
- The procure of new shackles 50ton was done from the head office
- Port cooperation on the other requirements needed for the operation
- Engagement of our well-trained riggers and banksman
